Paradoxical mortality differential of HDL cholesterol

چکیده
High-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol has been known for ages to be cardio-protective due its defensive action against genesis of atherosclerosis. Increasing the serum HDL (HDL-C) as a prospective potential prevent coronary heart disease could not prove beneficial in human trials that put forward major concern about role and functional contribution HDL-C health. Many observational studies indicated extreme high value is often associated with cardiovascular mortality; therefore considered detrimental healthy survival. Furthermore, genetic revealed possible link between low serumHDL-C development common noncardiovascular diseases such infectious disease, autoimmune disorder, malignancy, type-2 diabetes, kidney, pulmonary diseases. This review endeavors update on various reasons mortality observed values reflected recent along probable pathogenesis these ailments.

OBJECTIVE Determine the relationship between various lipid tests and all-cause mortality in life insurance applicants stratified by age and sex. METHOD By use of the Social Security Death Master File, mortality was determined in 1,488,572 life insurance applicants from whom blood samples were submitted to Clinical Reference Laboratory. There were 41,020 deaths observed in this healthy adult p...
متن کاملRare APOA5 promoter variants associated with paradoxical HDL cholesterol decrease in response to fenofibric acid therapy.
Individuals with mixed dyslipidemia, including high triglycerides (TGs) and low high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), have increased risk for coronary events. We examined the effect of rare genetic variants in the APOA5 gene region on plasma HDL-C, apolipoprotein A-I (apoA-I), and TG response to fenofibric acid monotherapy and in combination with statins. The APOA5 gene region was seque...
متن کاملA paradoxical severe decrease in serum HDL-cholesterol after treatment with a fibrate.
There have been a handful of reports in the literature of a paradoxical decrease in serum high density lipoprotein (HDL)-cholesterol in patients on fibrate drugs. The reason for this decline in cardioprotective HDL-cholesterol is not known and may have potential deleterious effects on the patient. This report describes a decrease in serum HDL-cholesterol in a patient on both simvastatin and bez...
متن کاملTriglycerides and HDL Cholesterol
D iabetes carries a high risk of atherosclerosis, and cardiovascular disease, especially coronary heart disease (CHD) and stroke, is by far the leading cause of death among patients with type 2 diabetes. Although statins reduce the risk of major vascular events by about one-fifth per millimole per liter reduction in LDL cholesterol, with similar proportional reductions in major coronary events,...
متن کاملReference intervals for serum total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol and non-HDL cholesterol in Batswana adults.
Reference intervals of total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol and non-HDL cholesterol concentrations were determined on 309 blood donors from an urban and peri-urban population of Botswana. Using non-parametric methods to establish 2.5th and 97.5th percentiles of the distribution, the intervals were: total cholesterol 2.16 - 5.52 mmol/l; non-HDL cholesterol 1.22 - 4.48 mmol/l; and HDL cholesterol 0...
